Spend a day exploring the New Zealand you came to see. Combine a stunning New Zealand scenic flight with a guided walk on the Kepler Track, one of NZ’s Great Walks; an overland journey via a remote scenic road then steam boat lake cruise back to Queenstown.
Book your Fiordland Scenic Flight directly online with us this winter and receive 10% off by quoting “WINTER10” when you submit your booking. Available for flights between 1 May 2019 – 30 September 2019.
After being transferred from your accommodation, your day begins at White Point, Queenstown. Soar high above Lake Wakatipu and the Mavora Lakes – beautiful North and South Mavora offer a birds’ eye view of golden tussock plains and winding river valleys. We cross the Snowden Mountains and fly high over Lake Te Anau and the charming Te Anau township before landing high above the lake at Luxmore Hut, part of the Kepler Track.
Take a breath and soak up the alpine views before starting your walk. This is an easy-going section of the Kepler; stroll through native beech forest and listen out for the call of the Bellbird on the way. It’s all down hill to Brod Bay, the pickup point for your boat cruise back to Te Anau.
Then it’s time to hit the road – the stunning scenic back-road, that is! Linking Queenstown and Te Anau, this route is remote and beautiful. We travel through the Mavora Lakes Conservation Area, a filming location in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Then we journey through the lunar-like Von Valley, dotted with cattle, merino sheep and work huts from the 1800’s. At Walter Peak Station you’ll board the historic TSS Earnslaw Steamboat for a 45-minute lake cruise to Queenstown.
