If you have time in your travelling schedule this is a fabulous all day experience. Remote and beautiful scenery awaits you.
You will transfer by taxi to be met by our helicopter and your guide for the day at White Point where your expedition will begin. Overflying Lake Wakatipu we head over Mavora Lakes. As we overfly beautiful North and South Mavora you will get a birdseye view of glistening lakes, tussock plains and river valleys. We continue over
the Snowden Mountain range before Lake Te Anau and the Te Anau township come into view. We fly high above the lake to land at Luxmore Hut on the Kepler Track, the starting point for your guided walk. Take time to enjoy the alpine views and flora before descending the mountain through native beech forest and all downhill to Brod Bay, your pick up point for a boat cruise back to Te Anau.
On conclusion of your walk you will begin the overland tour through the remote ‘back road’. Linking Queenstown and Te Anau, this is arguably one of the more remote scenic drives in New Zealand. Diverting from the state highway we travel through the Mavora Lakes Conservation Area, which was used as a filming location in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ and a most scenic spot surrounded by beech forest. Then we enter the Von Valley, with its lunar like environment, this is high country farming territory, with cattle in the valley and merino sheep on the hills. Old work huts dot the landscape, from a world long ago. We conclude the trip at Walter Peak Station alongside Lake Wakatipu, where you connect with the historic steamship the TSS Earnslaw for a 45minute return lake cruise to Queenstown.
